What an amazing and meaningful conversation with our community we had last weekend!
A generous resident opened her home to host a meet and greet on my behalf, and neighbors came together to share their hopes, aspirations, and perspectives on our TUSD schools.
One resident spoke passionately about the importance of providing our students with multiple pathways to success. He shared his concern about the decline of skilled trades in our workforce and the growing need for woodworkers, plumbers, electricians, painters, and other skilled professionals. It was a powerful reminder that our students deserve opportunities to explore many different paths and define success in their own way.
An educator shared her perspective on how our school funds could be used to best support our students and teachers.
A young father shared that he has heard so many wonderful things about Torrance schools and hopes to send his young child to their neighborhood school one day.
At the end of our time together, a 95-year-old retired educator looked at me and said, “I’ll vote for you.” I received her words with both humility and a deep sense of responsibility for the trust she placed in me.
There is something so beautiful and authentic about gathering together in someone’s home, listening to our neighbors, and hearing their hopes and concerns directly from the people who know our community best.
These conversations remind me why showing up matters.
