Why I visited my 16 schools as a district administrator

As a district administrator, Jennifer made it a priority to regularly visit the 16 schools she supported, so she could see teaching and learning firsthand and understand what school leaders, educators, and students needed to succeed. Telle Skalak, a 2nd grade teacher at Castle Heights Elementary and the 2021 LAUSD Teacher of the Year, taught at one of those schools, and has endorsed Jennifer for the Torrance school board.

In Jennifer’s words

During my time as a district administrator, I made it a priority to regularly visit my 16 schools I supported so I could see teaching and learning firsthand. These visits helped me better understand the needs of our school leaders, educators, and students and identify ways to support their success. Ms. Skalak is one of those exceptional educators whose classroom I love to visit. Seeing her in action and learning from her instructional practices reminds me of the incredible work our teachers do every day to engage students and make learning meaningful. I am deeply grateful for Ms. Skalak’s heartfelt endorsement and, even more so, for her dedication to our students. Thank you, Ms. Skalak, for the impactful work you do every day!

“She knows kids, she knows classrooms, and she knows the curriculum.”
